Jun 16th, 2008 • Category: Education, Flash Alert

North Carolina citizens serving in the National Guard and Reserves are returning home from combat tours in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF). The State’s Governor, DHHS Secretary, and Division Director are committed to insuring that our LME’s and relevant provider partners are prepared to address this need with the best we have to offer even in this time of transformation and change. This training is designed to acquaint participants with an overview of the returning Guard and Reservists and the readjustment issues that are expected.  This training is for those persons who hold a currently valid Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist credential.

Learning Goals:

By the end of this training participants will be able to:

1) Better understand the military culture, the stress of combat deployments on service members and their families, and the anticipated phases of adjustment.

2) Discriminate between normal post-deployment responses (post-traumatic stressors)and Post-Traumatic  Stress Disorder.

3) Identify helpful ways of responding to service members and their families and identify effective pathways to available resources.

4) Become more aware of areas of personal and professional growth that will facilitate improved responses to this population.
