Leadership in Addiction Treatment and Recovery”

Up to 14 credit hours available for conference

plus 7 credit hours for pre-conference trainings (3 HIV and 4 Ethics)

I want to personally invite you to attend this year’s Carolinas Conference on Addiction and Recovery, to be held November 9-11 at the First United Methodist Church in Morganton, NC.  It is the 13th year and, although we will be in a new city and a different venue, it promises to continue to be an informative and inspirational opportunity.

Each year we pick a theme around which we create a “conference persona.”  Last year it was Expanding Clinical Opportunities in Recovery Oriented Communities of Care. We heard from some of the best and brightest leaders in our field like David Powell, Jeff Georgi, Kevin McCauley, Victoriya Magid, Paul Grossberg, Judge Joe Buckner, and others.  They came from all over the country to educate, train and inspire us.  It was a great conference!

As we always do, we sought to help conference participants think about what they might do to improve treatment and recovery opportunities when they return home.  Recovery Oriented Communities of Care are springing up in many locations and taking many forms.  It is exciting to see that this conference produces results!

Ideas are presented at this conference through quality teaching by outstanding faculty.  Attendees test these ideas with colleagues from the Carolinas and other states.  They get to meet representatives from some of the finest treatment programs in the country who exhibit at the conference.  Our association with the Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies at UNC Chapel Hill continues to provide us with the very best and latest research.  We provide a workbook so that every participant can determine how they can take what they have learned at the conference and implement it in their personal and professional lives when they return home.  The Carolinas Conference is not your typical educational conference—this one actually makes a difference by combining new knowledge and increased passion with a plan for personal action!

This year our theme is Uniting Soul and Role:  Creating Transformational Leadership in Addiction and Recovery.  We continue to focus on recovery as the defining element in what we do as we look at the importance of staying true to our inner selves and we seek to become the best healers we can be.  We will again hear from some of the most outstanding experts in the country on relevant clinical topics while weaving our theme of uniting soul and role.  Our goal is that YOU will become a more transformational leader where you live and work.

It will be a beautiful time of the year and you are invited to come early or stay late and enjoy all that this foothills area of western North Carolina offers.  Conference hotel rates are affordable and have been extended to allow you to prolong your stay if you so desire.

If you want to enhance your personal and professional lives in ways that benefit you and your clients, this conference is the place to be.  I hope to see you in Morganton, NC, November 9-11!

NOTE:  ALL NET PROCEEDS OF THIS CONFERENCE WILL GO TO BURKE COUNCIL ON ALCOHOLISM & CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY, INC. TO EXPAND TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR FINANCIALLY NEEDY AND OTHER UNDERSERVED CLIENTS.

Warm regards,

Jim Van Hecke
